FAQs

Do you have referrals for low cost or free hauling or cleaning services?

While we cannot endorse companies, we recommend contacting your city or town to ask about getting a list of providers they recommend. Some municipalities may provide a free dumpster or other subsidized assistance to help create a safe living environment. The Departments of Aging, Mental Health and Housing might also have resources.

Where and how can I arrange for training for my organization to learn more about helping people with hoarding?

Several members of our Task Force have extensive experience in training/teaching about challenges with hoarding behaviors. We are also available for individual consultation. Training sessions can be conducted onsite or virtually to suit your needs. Please reach out via email to discuss requirements and pricing.

What do I do if I am concerned about animal/pets in a home with hoarding or animal hoarding?

Each city has their own rules on how many pets can be in a home. If you are concerned about the well-being of animals, please contact Animal Control.

I am a professional. Can I consult with someone for your Task Force about a situation?

Yes. Please email your concerns, age of person in question, and location of the situation. One of our volunteers will reach out to you within 48 hours.

How can I best help my loved one with hoarding challenges?

Express how much your care for your loved one and that you want to help. It is helpful to remember that safety of your loved one is the biggest concern rather than focusing on the “stuff”. Offer assistance to find a therapist, professional organizer or other professional to help increase the personal safety of your loved one in the living environment.

What can I do if I am at risk of being evicted?

Contact your local legal aid clinic and your local mental health services to learn about your rights and available resources. It is important to demonstrate a willingness to make changes and accept assistance to improve the living environment with a focus on safety.

I am concerned about my neighbor (or resident in a condo) who is not taking good care of their property. I am concerned about their safety and my own safety living next to them (fire, bugs, etc…)

Consider reaching out to your association or code enforcement department to report the issue. They can investigate the situation and take measures to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone involved.
